Aaron Samuel: CSKA Moscow Aims for UEFA Champions League Group Stage

CSKA Moscow’s Nigerian striker, Aaron Samuel, has affirmed that the UEFA Champions League return leg against Young Boys of Switzerland will not be underestimated by the Russian club. Speaking with CompletesportsSaturday, the former Guangzhou Evergrande striker emphasized CSKA’s commitment to securing their spot in the prestigious group stage.

Samuel made it clear that CSKA Moscow is not complacent following their 1-0 away victory but is fully focused on the task at hand. Their primary objective is to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage, proving that the Russian Premier League can field formidable representatives in this lucrative competition.

“We are not carried away by that win, rather we are determined to build on our first-leg win and seal our qualification at home,” Samuel stated. “They’re a very good side, and that calls for caution on our side. I am happy we won, but what really matters now is to win convincingly at home against Young Boys and demonstrate that we are ready to compete with some of Europe’s finest clubs.”

In the first leg, Young Boys conceded an own goal, granting CSKA Moscow a substantial advantage going into the return leg in Moscow.

Samuel also took the opportunity to commend Nigeria’s current coach, Gernot Rohr, for his impressive work with the national team. He expressed confidence in the German-born manager’s ability to lead Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, surmounting the challenges posed by Cameroon, Zambia, and Algeria.

As CSKA Moscow aims to secure their spot in the UEFA Champions League group stage, football enthusiasts eagerly await the return leg, which promises to be a thrilling encounter.
