Abakaliki FC stun Ikorodu City, continue fairy tale run to President Federation Cup final

Abakaliki FC continued their fairly tale run in the 2025 President Federation Cup with a 5-4 win over Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Ikorodu City FC on penalties in the semi final match which took place in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday.

Both sides were not separated after regulation time taking the last four clash into penalties.

Abakaliki FC scored five of their six penalties thanks to goals from Emeka Ugwu, Uche, Jude Aleke, and Elochukwu Paschal.

Kelechi Onwe and Marvelous Freedom missed for Ikorodu City.

Lower tier Abakaliki FC had earlier beaten top sides on their way to the President Federation Cup final.

In the Round of 32, they edged Katsina United 1-0 before seeing off two time African champions, Enyimba 2-0 in the Round of 16.

Before the semi final clash with Ikorodu City, the Northern Nigerian team pipped Nasarawa United 2-1 in the quarter final.

They will face another NPFL side in the grand finale with the winner of the second semi final clash between Kwara United and Rangers International FC their next opponent.

The winner of the 2025 President Federation Cup will represent Nigeria at the 2025/2026 CAF Confederation Cup.
