Abia State Government to Upgrade Umuahia Township Stadium

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced plans to upgrade the Umuahia Township Stadium as part of immediate efforts to enhance sports infrastructure in the state.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by its President, Ibrahim Gusau, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment through football.

The stadium, which serves as the home ground for Abia Warriors Football Club, is set for renovation to meet competitive standards as the team prepares to represent Nigeria in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.

The proposed Abia Stadium City aims to serve as a multifunctional sports and lifestyle hub, positioning the state as a leader in sports tourism and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the Umu Chineke Boys, led by Head Coach Imama Amapakabo, are currently in closed camping as part of their intensive preparations for the upcoming football season.

The upgrade of the Umuahia Township Stadium is expected to boost the team’s morale and ensure a conducive environment for local and continental competitions.
