Ademola Lookman hits career high scoring feat in Atalanta home loss to Inter

Super Eagles’ forward, Ademola Lookmam scored his seventh Serie A goal on Sunday to reached his career’s highest scoring goal record in a single season.

Unfortunately, that achievement was dwarfed as his side Atalanta loss 2-3 at home to their rivals Inter Milan and also missed the chance to climb to fourth before heading to winter break.

The former Leicester forward got the goal for the home side at the half hour mark when he converted from the spot after Stefan de Vrij brought Duván Zapata down in the box.

That pushed his goal stats to season’s best, one goal more than he scored in his entire season at Leicester City last season.

The lead did not last much longer before Edin Dzeko equalized with a glancing header off Lautaro Martinez’s delivery for the Nerrazzuri to even the scoreline at half time.

Inter took the lead 10 minutes into restart after Federico Di Marco’s cross ricocheted off an Atalanta defender and fell onto Džeko’s knee before creeping over the line.

The Simone Inzaghi led side then doubled their lead on the hour mark as Atalanta defender Jose Luis Palomino inadvertently headed the ball into his own goal from a corner kick.

Atalanta would then began to chase the game and piling up pressure on their visitors in a bid to reduce the deficit.

They would then get the lifeline with just over 10 minutes remaining as Palomino atone for his earlier own goal when scored with a sublime diving header.

The remaining minutes because a tensed one for Inter who would have to defend with more men and keep Lookman and Duvan Zapata in check.

Andre Onana made some last minute saves to seal the win for Inter and handed the fourth Champions League position heading to new year.

Atalanta will remain in the continental football slot but not what they would wished for as teams go on break for the World Cup.
