Ademola Lookman’s PSG move hits road block

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria international Ademola Lookman’s proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has encountered a significant hurdle, despite reports that he had agreed on personal terms with the Ligue 1 giants.

Lookman, who was instrumental in Atalanta’s successful Europa League campaign last season, helping them secure their first major trophy since 1963, has been a standout performer since joining the Bergamo-based club in 2022. He contributed 17 goals and 10 assists in 45 games last season and was particularly impressive in the Europa League final.

The 26-year-old winger is keen to leave Atalanta before the transfer window closes and has reportedly shown a strong desire to join PSG. The French club, looking to replace the injured Gonçalo Ramos, had initiated contact with Atalanta. However, negotiations have hit a snag.

According to Tutto Atalanta, PSG was led to believe they could acquire Lookman for between €20-25 million based on information from Lookman’s agents. In contrast, Atalanta’s management, led by Percassi, is seeking at least €40 million for the winger. This discrepancy in valuation has stalled the negotiations.

Atalanta had initially paid RB Leipzig €9.35 million for Lookman, but the Italian club’s current asking price reflects his significant impact and market value.

With the summer transfer window set to close on August 30 at 11 PM BST, it appears increasingly likely that Lookman will remain with Atalanta this season unless the two clubs can resolve the financial impasse in the coming days.
