Leicester City coach, Enzo Maresca has given an update on the state of Nigeria forward, Kelechi Iheanacho’s injury.

The former Manchesterer City forward was missing in the Foxes 2-0 win over Cardiff in the English second tier Championship on Friday.

Although Jose Peseiro named the Leicester man in his final 25-man roster for the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) but his latest injury casts doubt on his availabilty for the showpiece, kicking off on January 13, 2024.

“He had a muscular problem some days ago. We’ll see now how he is and if he can be okay for the next one,” the coach told media.

The Championship leaders will play their next match against Huddersfield on New Year Day (January 1, 2024), the same day Peseiro’s camp will be opened in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Iheancho is one of the players expected to resume camp on New Year’s Day.

He is part of the team’s attack line involving Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, Sadiq Umar, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, and Victor Boniface.
