Nigeria international Omorinsola Babajide has boldly declared the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) a superior tournament to the 2024 European Championships.
Babajide, who switched her allegiance from representing England at the youth level to Nigeria, shared her thoughts on social media after watching England’s lackluster draw against Slovenia in the Euros.
Her assessment reflects the sentiment of many fans who have found the Euro 2024 tournament underwhelming so far.
The ongoing Euros have seen a prevalence of own goals, leading the scorers’ chart, and have generally failed to generate the excitement typical of a major football event.
In contrast, the 2023 AFCON, held in Ivory Coast, captivated audiences with thrilling matches and memorable moments.
Babajide voiced her preference succinctly on X, saying, “AFCON >>> Euros,” underscoring her belief in the higher entertainment value and excitement offered by the African tournament.
