AFCON 2023: Leicester City celebrates Kelechi Iheanacho’s decisive shoot

Leicester City have celebrated Nigeria’s hero, Kelechi Iheanacho who secured their place in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final with Nigeria’s decisive penalty against South Africa on Wednesday.

Iheanacho played a pivotal role in securing the Super Eagles’ spot in the AFCON final after coming off the bench to make his first appearance since the tournament kicked off on January 13th.

Seniorman Kelz as popularly called was introduced as a fresh leg in the extra time in the 102nd minute to replace tired Ademola Lookman, as he provided the team with the necessary boost to prevail in the ensuing penalty shootout.

All hopes and eyes lay on Iheanacho for a slot in the final after Ola Aina missed his kick in the shootout despite Nwabali having saved two kicks.

The Foxes forward made no mistake from the spot kick to project the Super Eagles into the final to keep their quest for a fourth AFCON glory alive.

Leceister City via their official X page went to celebrate their own by quoting a post by the Super Eagles’ official handle.

“Kelechi Iheanacho scores the decisive penalty to send Nigeria into #AFCON2023 Final!  “

Under the post, a Nigerian Leicester City fan questioned their intention to call the player by his name instead of the nickname they have always tweeted with.

The handler then made a subsequent post to grant the wish of the fan and corrected what was presumed to be their mistake.
