Afcon 2023: Nigeria’s provisional squad inclusion excites Bendel Insurance goalkeeper

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Bendel Insurance goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie has expressed delight at his inclusion on the Nigeria’s senior men’s national team’s provisional squad for the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

The 23-year-old is one of the three home-based goalkeepers included in the 40-man list and Obasogie who has been impressive in the colours of Bendel Insurance could not hide his excitement, vowing to give his best for Nigeria.

“I am very happy and honoured to be among the 41 provisional lists,” Obasogie told Brila FM.

“It is an opportunity to be among the team and I won’t take the opportunity for granted.

“I want to thank the coach, Nigeria Football Federation, my club, fans, and Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) players and goalkeepers. I want to thank them for their love and congratulatory messages.

“I will make the country proud by God’s grace and thank the coach that has given NPFL goalkeepers a chance. It is not easy but I believe he has done well for recognising us and our efforts.”

He played a pivotal role in helping Bendel Insurance gain promotion to the NPFL and the team’s fairytale run to the 2023 Federation Cup triumph as the Benin Arsenals qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup.

“In NPFL, there are lots of good players and talents in the league,” he continued.

“With time, they will surely scout for more. I believe everybody deserves to be part of the national team but everybody can not be invited at the same time.

“I urge Nigerians to support the Super Eagles to cheer us to victory to bring the trophy home.”
