AFCON 2023: Opta reveals Super Eagles’ chances of winning the coveted title

Statistics platform, Opta has revealed the chances of participating teams winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

With the tournament set to kick off on Saturday, with the Elephants clash with Guinea Bissau, Opta supercomputer revealed its 2023 AFCON winners.

The verdict delivered that Nigeria has the sixth-best chance of winning the 2923 AFCON, with a winning percentage rate of 8.0, the Super Eagles are behind five others tipped to claim the title.

Holders, Senegal with 12.8% according to Opta are billed to retain the title.

They are followed by host, Cote D’Ivoire (12.1%), Morocco (11.1%), Algeria (9.7%), and record winners, Egypt (8.5%).

Cameroon (7.4%), Tunisia (6.3%), Ghana (5.3%), and Mali (3.7%) complete the list of top 10 teams with chances of winning AFCON 2023.

Nigeria has won three AFCON titles in 1980, 1994, and 2013 with two of the three coming away from home.

Jose Peseiro’s side will hope to claim their fourth title away from home and for the second time in West Africa after home triumph in 1980.
