Nothingham striker Taiwo Awoniyi has sent words of encouragement to fellow injured teammate, Victor Boniface, just days before the kickoff of the 2023 AfricaCup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
Boniface was named in Nigeria’s 25-man squad for the continental showpiece and had linked up with the rest of his teammates at their training camp in Abu Dhabi.
However, the 23-year-old had to withdraw from the squad after picking up a groin injury which is set to sudelined him until April.
The 23-year-old was hoping to represent Nigeria at a major international tournament for the first time after also missing out on the U20 AFCON after picking an injury seven days before the start of the tournament.
The Leverkusen star took to his X account to express disappointment while feeling sorry for himself and was met with a heartfelt motivation from his national teammate.
Awoniyi quoted the tweet, saying: “My guy mafo……. We gallant for that green white green We go again…..no one fit kill light Imole ma tan last last
