AFCON 2023: Victor Moses recounts 2013 glory, backs Super Eagles for success

By Monsurah Olatunji

Former Nigeria and Chelsea star, Victor Moses has sent his best wishes to the national team as they begin their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

The winger played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON victory despite battling injury throughout the tournament in South Africa.

Moses scored twice against Ethiopia in the last group game to ensure Nigeria’s progress and in the semi-final against Mali, the winger tormented the opposing defence.

The Spartak Moscow forward was also named in the Team of the tournament. Despite retiring from international football after the 2018 World Cup, his interest and support for the national team remain strong.

He took to his official X handle to express his support for Nigeria as they begin the journey to winning fourth glory.

“Good luck to the guys for the AFCON!,” he wrote.

“I have amazing memories from previous tournaments and I know you can create more history this year. We are all behind you! 🇳🇬
