AFCON 2023: Victor Osimhen not under goal-scoring pressure

By Monsurah Olatunji

Victor Osimhen has expressed calmness as he dismissed the notion of feeling pressured, even after missing several clear-cut chances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
So far in the tournament Nigeria have scored three goals with the Napoli striker involved in all three.
His header gave the Super Eagles the equalizer against Equatorial Guinea in their opening game and he went on to earn the penalty that Troost-Ekong scored for a triumph against the hosts in their second game.
His attacking run to meet Moses Simon’s cross forced the own goal that helped Nigeria to victory against Guinea-Bissau and booked their spot in the next round.
However, for his status as the Africa’s best player the weight of expectations placed on him is to win the Golden Boot.
“I am not under pressure,” Osimhen told reporters in Abidjan.
“I have won the title (African Player of the Year), but it’s now in the past.
“What is most important for me now is to do well with the team, make sure the team do well and win the AFCON.
“I don’t care about my individual performance. I could be on the bench and the other players get the job done.”
