President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the Nigeria’s senior men’s national team for their commanding performance following Nigeria’s 2–0 victory over Algeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The President commended the team for their resilience and for lifting the spirits of Nigerians with their display, describing the performance as both brilliant and inspiring.
Tinubu delivered his message of support on Saturday evening via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @officialABAT, shortly after the quarter-final encounter.
“Brilliant performance… Inspiring. Go, Super Eagles! You have the support of all Nigerians,” the President wrote.
Nigeria, three-time AFCON champions, sealed their place in the semi-finals courtesy of second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, ending Algeria’s campaign and extending the Super Eagles’ perfect run at the tournament.
Osimhen opened the scoring early in the second half before turning provider for Adams, as Nigeria dominated proceedings at the Stade de Marrakech.
The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to a high-stakes semi-final clash against host nation Morocco on Wednesday, as they continue their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
