Nigeria international Maduka Okoye has lauded his fellow goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, as one of the top goalkeepers in the game.
Okoye, who has been in outstanding form for Italian club Udinese and was recently named in the Serie A Team of the Week, expressed his admiration for Nwabali’s performance.
Nwabali impressed with his exceptional displays at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, where he was pivotal for the Super Eagles.
Okoye reiterated the quality of the goalkeeping squad and shared his enthusiasm for training alongside Nwabali and the national team’s goalkeeping coach.
“Like you said, we have top goalkeepers,” Okoye told the press in Uyo.
“Stanley proved it in the AFCON and for me, it is also great to share the pitch with them and train together with them and the very good goalkeeping coach. It is always good.”
Nwabali is currently the Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper, with Okoye and Nwabali engaged in a healthy rivalry for the position.
Both goalkeepers are committed to pushing each other to achieve their best, reflecting the competitive spirit within the squad.
