Afeez Aremu, Oladapo Afolayan put St. Pauli closer to Bundesliga promotion

By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigerian duo of Afeez Aremu and Oladapo Afolayan were both in action for St. Pauli as they defeated Arminia Bielefeld 2-1 to aid the team’s quest for promotion to the German Bundesliga.
Afolayan started the game in frontline of three and was troublesome for the opposition’s defense.
The 25-year-old completed two dribbles, attempted one shot, won two fouls, and made three clearances.
Two minutes after the quarter-hour, Saliakas sent Afolayan on his way into the penalty area with an excellent through pass, and, instead of going for goal himself, the former Bolton man elected to square the ball to Hartel, only for Frederik Jäkel to slide in to intercept.
Five minutes later, the Nigerian did find the net, but the goal didn’t count, referee Max Burda correctly ruled that the winger had fouled Fraisl before converting.
The winger played his part before making way for his compatriot with just 10 minutes of regular time remaining.
Aremu made his impact felt as well after he attempted a shot on goal but missed unable to find the back of the net.
Thanks to goals from Marcel Hartel and Lukas Daschner, St.Pauli won 2-1 at home to move 10 points from automatic qualification and 6 points from the playoff spot with four games left to play.
