Akor Adams Targets Strong AFCON Debut as Super Eagles Look to Redeem Themselves

Nigeria forward Akor Adams has set his sights on making a positive impact at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, describing the tournament as an opportunity for Nigeria to redeem their image after recent disappointment.

The Sevilla striker is set to make his AFCON debut following an impressive run of form in Europe and says he is fully focused on the task ahead.

Adams admitted the pain of missing out on the World Cup remains, but insists the team must now look forward.

“I am disappointed, like every Nigerian and every player in the team,” Adams said. “But in football, and in life, you have to look forward. We have another opportunity to redeem ourselves now.”

The 24-year-old expressed gratitude for the chance to represent Nigeria on the continental stage, calling his inclusion in the squad a blessing.

“Not just for the AFCON, but being part of the Super Eagles is a blessing for me,” he added. “I am grateful to God and I do not take it for granted. I try to give my best and I’m happy to be here.”

Confident in Nigeria’s preparation and quality, Adams believes success at the tournament will depend on focus and readiness rather than experience or conditions.

“There are no advantages except how well you prepare,” he said. “It doesn’t matter the weather or being here many times. If you prepare well, you will play well, and that’s what we’ve been doing.”

Nigeria will open their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tanzania at the Fez Stadium in Fes on Tuesday, December 23, with Adams eager to make his mark on Africa’s biggest football stage.
