Newly appointed coach of Akwa United FC, Fatai Osho is of the view that he is well equipped to guide the team back to the club competition on the continent.
Osho resigned from Rivers United as assistant coach after Port Harcourt based on failed to retain the Nigeria Premier Football League title with a third-place finish at the Super Six in Lagos.
The former Remo Stars and Enyimba gaffer replaced Deji Ayeni as the head coach of the Uyo-based side this week as his main focus is to help the team qualify for the continent.
“It’s a big challenge. I think I am well equipped to face it in terms of experience. I have seen it all at the level of the continent.” Osho told Brila FM.
“All those valuable experiences would come to bear. The team is big and we have to see how to take it back to the continent.
“It’s not going to be an easy task but then all hands will have to be on deck to ensure that we create a team that would actually compete and not a pretender in the league.”
Meanwhile, the former coach of the team, Ayeni has explained why his contract wasn’t extended after its expirations.
Ayeni and Akwa United missed out on the Super Six on inferior goal difference after finishing with the same points as eventual champions, Enyimba.
“It was just goal difference that led to the team not extending my contract. Since my contract expired, they felt that we were supposed to be in the Super Six which wasn’t my making,” he said.
