Akwa United paid for mistakes against Enyimba – Fatai Osho after friendly loss

By Saheed Afolabi
Technical adviser of Akwa United, Fatai Osho has admitted the club paid for their mistakes against Enyimba.
The People’s Elephant defeated the Promise Keepers 3-1 in a preseason friendly game as they gear up for the new Nigeria Premier League (NPL) season.
Osho seems unperturbed about the result of the game as he targets the players adaptability to the tactical approach as he attributed Akwa United’s mistakes to not been aggressive enough against their opponents.
“We are not necessarily looking at the outcome of this preseason game but we were more interested in our tactical approach and the performance of our players against a team like Enyimba,” Osho told Complete Sports.
“From my assessment, we made some mistakes in the first-half, my players were not aggressive enough, we created paradise for Enyimba and we paid for it.
“In the second half, we made some changes and took control of the game, created lots of scoring chances but we couldn’t overturn the first half result.”
The experienced tactician said the technical crew will work on the finishing touches of the players because that’s a critical area that was exposed during the clash with Enyimba International.
“Our finishing was not good and that is the most important lesson we have learned from this game and I’m happy that we are already working on our finishing which we are going to continue and hopefully we will sort that out in some friendly games before the commencement of the new season.”
Akwa United missed out of a place in the CAF Continental tournaments as Enyimba will tackle Al-Ahly Benghazi in the CAF Champions League with the first leg coming up in Libya on 20 August and the return leg at Aba on August 25.
