Akwa United’s Sanni Suleiman Set to Join AS Trenčín

Akwa United’s star forward, Sanni Suleiman, is poised to join Slovakian side AS Trenčín following an impressive debut season in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Suleiman, who transferred to Akwa United during the mid-season window from Wikki Tourists, played a pivotal role in saving the Akwa Ibom side from relegation.

His remarkable performance, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists in just 15 games, attracted attention from several clubs. Ultimately, he opted to sign a two-year pre-contract with AS Trenčín, which will be activated once he turns 18 in the last quarter of the year.

The 17-year-old’s exceptional form earned him the NPFL Rookie of the 2023/2024 Season award from the League Bloggers Award.

His impending move to AS Trenčín follows the path of notable Nigerian players like Moses Simon, Samuel Kalu, and Hilary Gong, who have also played for the Slovakian club.

Suleiman’s transfer highlights the growing trend of Nigerian talents making their mark in European leagues, promising a bright future for the young forward as he continues his football journey in Slovakia.
