Al Ahly’s Junior Ajayi Aims to Secure Victory Against Esperance in CAFCL Quarter-Final Showdown

In a highly anticipated clash, Al Ahly of Egypt is poised to face Esperance Sportive de Tunis in the quarter-final second leg of the CAF Champions League, with Al Ahly striker, Junior Ajayi, expressing his unwavering determination to secure a victory in Tunis this Saturday.

The first leg of this scintillating encounter unfolded two weeks ago on Egyptian soil, ending in a thrilling 2-2 draw, leaving both teams with all to play for in this pivotal return match.

Junior Ajayi, a former Nigeria U-23 striker, has displayed his prowess in this season’s CAF Champions League, finding the net twice in eight appearances for the reigning Egyptian champions. Manager Hossam El-Badry has included him in the 25-man squad for the Stade Olympique de Radès clash, and Ajayi exudes confidence in their ability to triumph. He fervently prays for a fortuitous performance on Saturday.

The stakes are high for Al Ahly, an eight-time record holder of the CAF Champions League, aiming to reclaim the coveted title they last secured in 2013. To advance to the semi-finals, Al Ahly must either secure a clear victory or attain a 3-3 draw on Tunisian turf.

In an interview with Completesportsnigeria.com, Ajayi emphasized the critical nature of this encounter, saying, “This game is crucial for us, and we are confident of recording a win to advance to the semi-finals.” He added, “I just pray for a good day on Saturday.”

Ajayi also brushed off concerns about the new addition to the squad, Phakamani Mahlambi from South African side Bidvest Wits, reaffirming his unwavering focus and readiness for the challenge. He confidently stated, “He is a top player, but certainly I know my worth.”

In an unfortunate twist of fate, Esperance Sportive de Tunis goalkeeper Moez Ben Cherifia will be sidelined for the second leg showdown against Al Ahly. Tunisian radio, Shems FM, reported that the 26-year-old goalkeeper underwent surgery due to a sudden health issue, rendering him unavailable for this critical match. Ben Cherifia had been instrumental in the first leg, ensuring a 2-2 away draw for Esperance in Alexandria.

As the footballing world eagerly anticipates this electrifying clash, the spotlight will be on Junior Ajayi and his teammates, who are fervently striving to reclaim their CAF Champions League crown. The outcome of this match will significantly impact their journey towards that ultimate goal.
