Alex Iwobi: Rising Star Remains Grounded Amid Fame and Fortune

Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi, has emphasized that fame and fortune in football have not changed him, as he continues to embody humility and remain true to his roots. The 21-year-old, who ascended through Arsenal’s youth setup and secured a place in the first team during the 2015/2016 season, has been a notable presence at the club since then. Iwobi was part of the Arsenal team that clinched the FA Cup last season. However, in the current season’s opener against Leicester City, a thrilling 4-3 victory, he remained an unused substitute.

Discussing his remarkable journey from a youth player at Arsenal, Iwobi acknowledged that being the nephew of former Super Eagles captain Austin Okocha has been beneficial. Despite the increased recognition and attention he now receives, Iwobi asserted that he remains grounded and connected to his roots.

He revealed, “I still hang out with the same friends when they’re back from university, and after training, I still go home and sleep. Nothing’s really changed, except that I am now playing in the first team. I do get recognized more, and people are like ‘ahhh.'”

The Arsenal forward acknowledged the impact of his family, particularly his parents, in keeping him grounded. He explained that they are not only helping him manage his finances and investments but are also encouraging him to think about life beyond football.

Iwobi stressed that he does not embrace a flashy lifestyle and is committed to maintaining his humility.
