Alex Iwobi scored and provided an assist as Fulham defeated Sunderland 3-1 at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on Sunday.
Also in action for Fulham was Calvin Bassey, while Samuel Chukwueze missed out due to injury.
The victory ended Fulham’s run of three straight defeats, lifting them to 10th place and into the top half of the table, displacing Newcastle United. Sunderland, meanwhile, remain 12th and look well placed to retain their top-flight status next season.
Regis Le Bris’ side had been on a 12-game unbeaten run at home until Liverpool ended that streak a fortnight ago, and they have now suffered successive defeats at the Stadium of Light.
Fulham took the lead when Iwobi’s pinpoint corner found Raul Jimenez, who headed beyond Robin Roefs after being left completely unmarked. Jimenez doubled the advantage seven minutes later, calmly converting from the penalty spot after Calvin Bassey was brought down, with the decision awarded following a VAR review.
Sunderland pulled one back after a clumsy challenge by Ryan Sessegnon resulted in a penalty, which Enzo Le Fee converted emphatically.
However, Fulham restored their two-goal cushion soon after. A swift counterattack orchestrated by Harry Wilson ended with Iwobi finishing brilliantly from a tight angle to wrap up the victory—only the third time in his Premier League career that he has both scored and assisted in the same match.
