English Premier League side, Everton have announced that Nigeria international forward, Alex Iwobi will be sidelined for around three weeks after sustaining ankle ligament injury.
The Toffees disclosed this in a statement released on Sunday as Iwobi twisted his ankle following a challenge by United’s Tyrell Malacia and had to be stretchered off.
The 26-year-old is not expected to return to action until February 4 when Everton face off with his former employers Arsenal in a Premier League clash at Goodison Park.
The former Arsenal player has been one of the key stars for Everton this season and his absence will be a major blow for the Toffees who are still in a relegation fight.
However, he is not expected to require surgery as scans revealed that his ankle is not broken & conservative management can help him heal what is a lateral ligament injury.
If Iwobi’s rehabilitation goes according to plan, the injury will not prevent him from linking up with the Nigeria squad for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches with Guinea-Bissau in March.
