Amanda Mbadi: Nigeria midfielder completes switch to Espanyol

Spanish women’s football side, RCD Espanyol has announced the acquisition of midfielder, Amanda Mbadi.

Amanda joined the Spanish team from the French side, Saint Etienne after the expiration of her contract.

The former Thonon Evian player was part of Saint Etienne’s side that gained promotion to the French top flight at the end of the 2023/2024 season alongside compatriot, Regina Otu.

Goalkeeper, Yewande Balogun was also part of the Saint Etienne team that secured top-flight status at the end of last season.

Amanda scored a goal in 15 games for the white and green team in the league at the end of the 2023/2024 campaign.

Before moving abroad, Amanda played for Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Bayelsa Queens and was part of the team that won the 2021 President Federation Cup (FA Cup) against FC Robo Queens.

She joined an increasing list of Nigerian players in the Spanish women’s league.

They include Gift Monday, Esther Okoronkwo (both of Costa Adeje Tenerife), Edna Imade (Granada), Esther Onyenezide (Madrid CFF), Opeyemi Ajakaye (Madrid CFF) and Rasheedat Ajibade (Atletico Madrid).
