Remo Stars kicked off its 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign with a 2-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri on Sunday at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.
Ezekiel Edidiong had the first chance of the game in the second minute of play but his effort went straight to the opponent’s goalkeeper.
Four minutes later, Samuel Anakwe’s attempt inside the box was blocked by a sea of defenders before  Adebayo Olamilekan also had another chance inside the box which was blocked by the visitors’ defenders in the ninth minute.
The pressure from the Sky Blue Stars eventually paid off as Edidiong flicked the ball to Anakwe who drifts in the field, ghosting past three players before opening the scoring in the 29th minute.
Two minutes from halftime, Aniekeme Okon sent a cross to rushing Adebayo who couldn’t keep his effort down.
The second half was a cagey affair until coach Daniel Ogunmodede introduced Seun Odunsi for Remo.
Substitute Odunsi evaded four yellow jerseys to set Edidiong Ezekiel up for his debut competitive goal for Remo Stars in the 87th minute.
Remo Stars will take the win to its next away match against Gombe United.
