Ancelotti says Lille must work together to contain Osimhen
Lille head coach Davide Ancelotti says his team will need a collective defensive effort to limit Victor Osimhen when they host Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Turkish Super Lig champions will visit the Stade Pierre-Mauroy with Osimhen expected to lead their attack. The Nigeria international is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading forwards and represents a major threat to Lille.
Ancelotti believes the French side cannot rely on one player to deal with the former Napoli striker and says discipline will be required both in and out of possession.
“We stop him with a collective effort. It doesn’t depend on one player; it always depends on the collective,” Ancelotti told a press conference.
“He’s a player who, at Napoli, almost won the Scudetto single-handedly.
“We know the potential he has, and we know we must always be vigilant when we attack and when we defend.”
Osimhen’s return to Lille will add another element to the fixture. He played for the club during the 2019/2020 campaign before securing a big-money move to Napoli.
Lille’s focus, however, will be on preventing him from influencing the match as Galatasaray begin their challenge in Europe.
