Anthony Ujah: Nigerian striker offered management role by Bulgarian club

By Wale Mustapha

Nigeria striker Anthony Ujah is set for a transition into management with Bulgarian club Botev PD, even as he continues his playing career.

Botev’s Sporting Director, Artur Platek, announced that Ujah will take on a role aimed at attracting more African talent to the club after his retirement.

Platek extolled Ujah’s professionalism and conduct both on and off the pitch, noting that he will help facilitate the inclusion and development of young African footballers at Botev.

“Anthony is at a level both on and off the field. He shows our young African players how they need to work to reach his level,” Platek explained.

Ujah, who joined Botev last summer as a free agent after being released by Eintracht Braunschweig, is currently recovering from a serious tendon injury sustained during the second leg against Panathinaikos in the Europa League qualifying rounds.

He underwent surgery and is expected to be sidelined until the end of the autumn campaign.

With a career spanning three continents—Africa, Europe, and Asia—Ujah’s vast experience and knowledge of the game make him a valuable asset for Botev.

He will play a crucial role in connecting the club with various football academies and clubs in Nigeria and Africa, facilitating the transfer of talented young players to Europe for development and future sales to top clubs.
