Arokodare still building fitness, Says Edwards as Wolves search for first EPL win

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

Wolves head coach Rob Edwards says summer signing Tolu Arokodare is still short of full fitness, admitting the striker’s conditioning remains a “work in progress” as the club continues to chase its first league victory of the season.

Edwards, who only had his complete squad together for the first time on Friday because of international commitments, has long stressed that his squad’s development will take time. But with goals proving hard to come by, he concedes that a sharper edge in the final third is essential if Wolves are to turn performances into points.

Assessing the burgeoning strike partnership between Jørgen Strand Larsen and Arokodare, Edwards praised their endeavour but noted that the pair lacked the cutting edge required to unlock the opposition.

Despite the recent goalscoring struggles, the manager insisted he remains confident that the duo will grow into a more formidable pairing once they reach peak condition and develop a stronger on-field understanding.

“I think they’ll be very difficult to play against,” Edwards said. “Tolu’s done really well this week for us, and I’ve liked him. I thought he worked extremely hard today.

“We’ll get more from him the fitter he gets. He’s not at full power yet, but he worked really, really hard for the hour or so he was on.

“I’m looking forward to getting more from him. I think he believes in what we’re trying to do. If we can get them right at it, you wouldn’t want to play against those two.”

Wolves remain winless in the league, but Edwards maintains that improved fitness, cohesion, and confidence in the final third will be key to changing their fortunes.
