By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
The final Group B clash between ASEC Mimosa and Rivers United in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage will determine the group winner in Abidjan on Sunday.
With both West African clubs tied on 10 points, the Nigerians will seek to finish top of the group by avoiding defeat in the Ivorian capital after a first leg triumph over ASEC in Uyo.
The Ivorian side will need a win to top the table and anything less than a win means Rivers United will top the log.
The Sunday clash will hold at the Municipal Stadium, Yamoussoukro from 5:00 pm Nigerian time.
Except battle for the group winner spot, both sides have already qualified for the quarter-final with the closest team, Diables Noirs on five points.
ASEC Mimosa has only won one of their last two home games in the ongoing competition, while the Pride of Rivers has won one and lost one on the road.
The Port Harcourt-based side defeated Asec Mimosa 3-0 when they last met in Nigeria with goals from Malachi Ohawume, Ukeme Williams, and Denis Ndasi.
Rivers United has been boosted by seeing Ebube Duru return from suspension, while Sochima Victor is back from international duties with the Super Eagles.
ASEC Mimosa’s leading goalscorer in the competition with 4 goals Kramo Kouaméin is available for selection and will be the man to mark.
This will be the first time that Rivers United will make it to the quarter-final of the competition as they to become the first Nigerian side to win the title since the change of name to the CAF Confederation Cup.
