Asisat Oshoala: Nigeria and Barcelona star makes Ballon d’Or nominees shortlist

Nigeria international Asisat Oshoala has earned a nomination for the prestigious 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or.
The Women’s Ballon d’Or remains a relatively new trophy on the world football scene, but lifting the Golden Ball is quickly becoming a dream for many of the world’s best players.
After a memorable 12 months for the women’s game, the shortlist of nominees for the 2023 award has been revealed.
The Super Falcons forward has been nominated for the award for the second consecutive year in a row.
The five-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year will be in contention with formidable opponents such as Linda Caicedo, Lioness’s Rachel Daly, Alba Redondo, Mary Earps, and a host of others vying for the illustrious award.
Oshoala won the Spanish title and Champions League with Barcelona and reached the Round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with the Nigeria in Australia and New Zealand.
Despite her injury, the 28-year-old scored 21 goals and three assists in 28 domestic League appearances and five goals in all her nine Women’s Champions League appearances.
