Captain of South Africa senior men’s national team Ronwen Williams echoed his coach’s words, stressing that the team must remain in control of their own destiny.
Bafana Bafana’s path to the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains firmly in their hands as they prepare for a decisive Group C qualifier against Nigeria at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday night.
For Williams, the focus is to get positive result against Super Eagles which will take them closer to their first World Cup appearance since 2010 when South Africa hosted the world.
“The most important thing is to get the job done. We do not want any favours from anyone, we want to do things our way,” He said during pre match press conference.
“We learnt a hard lesson a few years ago when our destiny was in other team’s hands and obviously things didn’t go our way. So, we learnt and grew as a team, and now we want to do things our way and get the job done,” Williams said.
South Africa lead the group with 16 points from seven matches, while Nigeria sit third on 10 points after the same number of games.
Bafana Bafana can seal World Cup ticket with a win over Nigeria if Benin Republic fails to beat Lesotho.
