Barcelona offer €60m for Rodri as Manchester City demand €80m

Barcelona have made a new verbal offer worth €60m (£51.5m) plus add-ons for Manchester City midfielder Rodri, but the English club are holding out for €80m (£68.7m) before agreeing to sell the Spain captain.

The proposed transfer remains unresolved, with the two clubs yet to reach an agreement during the current summer transfer window. However, a number of reports have suggested Rodri is increasingly likely to move to Barcelona.

Italian journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that Barcelona had presented Manchester City with the latest verbal proposal. He added on his official X account that Manchester City continue to insist on receiving €80m for Rodri.

Romano said Barcelona remain confident of completing the deal and that an agreement somewhere between the two offers could provide the most likely solution. He indicated that the structure and value of the additional payments could prove decisive in negotiations.

Rodri is under contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2027. That means this transfer window represents the English club’s final opportunity to secure a significant fee for the midfielder if the two sides do not agree a new contract.

Barcelona are seeking to use the fact that Rodri has only one further year remaining on his current Manchester City contract after this summer. The Catalan club are also looking to take advantage of the player’s reported desire to leave the Premier League champions as they attempt to bring the deal to a conclusion.

Manchester City, meanwhile, do not want to allow Rodri to depart without receiving a fee they consider acceptable. Their €80m valuation is currently €20m higher than Barcelona’s initial offer before potential add-ons are taken into account.

The negotiations therefore remain focused on whether the two clubs can bridge the gap between Barcelona’s €60m proposal and Manchester City’s demands. The inclusion of performance-related or other add-ons may be central to reaching a compromise.

Rodri has played an important role for both Manchester City and Spain. He captained Spain during their World Cup triumph in 2026 and was also named the tournament’s best player.

Those achievements have contributed to his importance in the transfer discussions, while his contract situation has increased the pressure on Manchester City to decide whether to sell him this summer or retain him and risk having fewer opportunities to generate a transfer fee later.

For now, Barcelona are continuing to pursue the midfielder with confidence, but Manchester City’s insistence on an €80m package means the proposed move has yet to be finalised.
