Being part of Olympic Eagles is a dream come true – Munir Idris

By Sabitu Akano
Niger Tornadoes and Nigeria’s U23 Olympic Eagles enterprising winger, Munir Idris has continued to revel in his dream National Team involvement.
The skillful attacker who has always dreamed of getting a National Team invitation, expressed happiness over his call up and promised to live up to expectations.
Idris shares his thoughts on his National Team invitation: “Firstly, I will like to give glory to Almighty Allah for making my dream a reality; to be part of the team that is going to make the nation proud. Of course, it is the dream of any footballer to wear the colors of his National Team. My joy knew no bounds when I received the news of my invitation; I felt very happy, proud and honored to be part of the team. I can’t stop thanking God.”
Describing the experience, he added, “It was a very good experience, even though this wasn’t my first National Team call up. I was invited to the U20 Flying Eagles camp earlier this year, but I couldn’t make the cut for the proper qualifiers, so, I took that in good faith.
“Now I’ve been presented with another opportunity, a chance to train and play under great coaches assembled, including my Coach, Abubakar Bala Mohammed, who discovered me, encouraged and gave me the needed support to excel. I’ll never forget him – in fact I’ll continue to make him proud for the confidence reposed in me. I’m delighted and happy to be part of the team.”
He continued, “It was a well deserved victory against Tanzania after a hard fought draw in Tanzania. We worked very hard and the spirit of team was high. We trained good and the coaches made sure we remained focused and ready for the task. The support we received in Ibadan, before, during and after the match was massive and overwhelming – it actually gingered us. kudos to everyone involved”
The Olympic Eagles shall take on Guinea in the third round of the TotalEnergies U23 AFCON qualifiers which will be played in March next year. Seven countries will qualify for the final phase of the competition scheduled to take place in Morocco at the end of 2023.
