Benue FA Chairman pledges support for Nigeria Women Football League initiatives
By Saheed Afolabi
The chairman of Benue State Football Association (BSFA), Barrister Paul Edeh has pledged his support for the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) board decision to establish the Women’s States League.
The Nkechi Obi led NWFL have introduced the state league to replace the nationwide league established by the past administration and Edeh canvasses for more women to be on the board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to provide equality in all fronts with the men’s football.
“Our women are capable of managing the clubs in the NWFL, for the NWFL Board to effectively get things right, I feel in the inequality jinx in the NFF Executive Board composition needs to be broken,” Edeh told the Press.
“Its unfair for Nigeria’s women football to have just the NWFL in the NFF Board, while the men’s domestic league, is represented by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL) and the Nationwide League One (NLO).
“The NWFL Board is managing other Women’s League Division. A representative from the NWFL Premiership, Championship and Nationwide should also be in the NFF Board for fairness and equality, if truly we want to see the growth of the women’s game.”
The football administrator commended the NWFL for bringing up the state league initiative and has promised that BSFA will be a partner to it.
“Its a good development for the growth of the women’s football from the grassroot,” he continued.
“On our part, the Benue State Football Association (BSFA) will be the first to contribute to the Benue State Women’s League project. On behalf of the BSFA, we are funding the project with Two Million Naira.”
