By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Two South West teams, Beyond Limits Football Academy from Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, and Ikorodu City FC from Lagos, have secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the upcoming season.

This achievement came after the conclusion of the Southern Conference of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 group stage on Wednesday.

Beyond Limits Football Academy clinched their promotion with a narrow 1-0 victory over Inter Lagos, thanks to a 27th-minute goal from Kparobo Arierhi. This win allowed them to top the Southern Conference log.

Ikorodu City FC also secured their promotion by defeating Madiba FC 2-0, with Toheeb Ayejigbe scoring a brace in either half of the match. Ikorodu City finished second in the Southern Conference with five points, behind Beyond Limits, who accumulated seven points over three group games.

In the Northern Conference, Nasarawa United and El-Kanemi Warriors had already sealed their promotion. Nasarawa United topped the Northern Conference with a perfect nine points from three games, while El-Kanemi Warriors followed with six points.

The promotions mark an exciting expansion for the NPFL as these teams bring fresh talent and competitive spirit to the league. Meanwhile, Gombe United and three other teams, set to be determined at the end of the 2023/2024 NPFL season, will be relegated to the NNL.

This reshuffle in the league standings promises an invigorating new season with a mix of seasoned teams and ambitious newcomers aiming to make their mark in the top tier of Nigerian football before the end of the campaign.
