Birthday girl Victoria Eyakndue announces exit from NWFL Premiership side Abia Angels

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Victoria Eyakndue has announced her departure from Abia Angels ahead of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership campaign.

The former Ibom Angels player took to her Facebook page to announce her departure from the Umuahia-based side on her birthday, Wednesday.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY Victoria Ime Eyakndue…Truly you are a product of what I call #SAVING GRACE#
On this day, I’m making it official to say goodbye and thank you to Abia Angels FC,” she wrote.

“Sincerely you have been the best, fruitful, and greatest platform in my career…I appreciate God Almighty for how far He has brought me, thank you my own best Mum, siblings, friends, and well-wishers.

“Thank you to the Abia State Government, management, coaches, and my wonderful teammates, the fans, and supporters of Abia Angels FC.. indeed it was a great experience back there but I have decided to take this bold step and face a new challenge for myself and in my career. On this note I say.”

Eyankndue was with her home team, Ibom Angels until the 2020/2021 season the club went on relegation to the second-tier NWFL Championship.

She captained Abia Angels throughout the 2022/2023 NWFL Premiership campaign, recording one of the biggest upsets of the season after a 1-0 win over Edo Queens in Benin City.

Eyakndue’s next destination is yet-to-be-known but will be clearer before the NWFL Premiership kicks off in November.

Born and raised in one of Akwa Ibom State’s most scenic cities, Uyo, just to the South of Calabar, painting is not just a solitary pursuit for Eyakndue but also something that she can share with her team-mates.

She has become well-known at both club and national level for taking her paintbrush to her team-mates’ boots, with some creative designs arising from those sessions.
