Ghana women’s U-17 national team emerged as champions of the maiden West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) U-17 Girls Cup after a 5-4 victory on penalties over Nigeria.

The host had a two-goal lead in the first half thanks to Gertrude Amoafa and Priscilla Mensah.

Precious Oscar pulled a goal back for Flamingos before the end of the first half.

In the second half, Harmony Chidi scored the leveler to take the game into penalties where the Black Maidens won 5-4.

Earlier, Benin Republic defeated Cote D’Ivoire 5-4 on penalties in the third-place match after regulation time ended 0-0

Ghana is now WAFU-B U-17 and U-17 Girls Cup winners after beating Nigeria in the final of both competitions.

At the women’s U-17 level, Ghana and Nigeria both have the same record at the World Cup.

They both had bronze medals, Africa’s best performance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
