Bournemouth secured a 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, becoming only the third team to lead by three clear goals at the stadium three times in Premier League history.

The result came in the eighth round of the Premier League and delivered another damaging home defeat for Manchester United. It also underlined Bournemouth’s record of producing strong performances at a ground where visiting sides have traditionally found it difficult to impose themselves.

According to statistics provider Opta, Bournemouth had previously established a 3-0 lead at Old Trafford in December 2023 and repeated the feat in December 2024. Their latest victory means they have now achieved the milestone three times.

Only Liverpool and Manchester City had previously managed to go three goals ahead without reply at Old Trafford on three occasions in the competition. Bournemouth’s achievement therefore puts them alongside two of the Premier League’s most successful clubs in the stadium’s record books.

The match also added to the growing impact Marcus Tavernier has had in Bournemouth’s Premier League meetings with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Opta says the England midfielder has been directly involved in five Premier League goals at the ground as an away player. His record consists of two goals and three assists, placing him among the most productive English players to have faced Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Only two English players have scored more Premier League goals there as visiting players than Tavernier. Harry Kane and Steven Gerrard each found the net six times at the stadium during away appearances against Manchester United.

For Bournemouth, the victory was therefore significant beyond the three points. Their latest three-goal success repeated a rare achievement at Old Trafford, while Tavernier’s contribution strengthened his personal record at the ground.

For Manchester United, the defeat provided another reminder of their vulnerability at home against Premier League opposition. Bournemouth’s performance showed that Old Trafford is no longer the impenetrable stronghold it once appeared to be.
