Bundesliga: Victor Boniface bags assist in Werder Bremen’s first win of season

By Wale Mustapha

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface marked his Werder Bremen debut with an assist as the Green-Whites thrashed Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-0 in a Bundesliga Matchday Four clash.

The 24-year-old forward, a deadline-day signing from Bayer Leverkusen, was introduced in the 75th minute for Romano Schmid and wasted no time making his mark. Just six minutes later, his precise delivery was converted by Justin Njinmah to seal Bremen’s emphatic win.

Bremen had already stamped authority on the game before Boniface’s cameo. Samuel Mbangula opened the scoring early, before Jens Stage doubled the lead.

Schmid then coolly converted a penalty after Diks bundled down Mbangula in the box, making it 3-0 before Boniface turned provider for the fourth.

The result not only gave Bremen their first victory of the season but also lifted morale in front of a jubilant home crowd, with the team now sitting on four points from three matches.

For Boniface, it was the perfect introduction to life in Bremen colours, showing glimpses of the creativity and strength that made him one of Nigeria’s standout exports in Europe last season.
