CAF CC: Festus Austin attributes Rivers United’s away win to hard work

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Rivers United skipper, Festus Austin has attributed his team’s away win over FC Motema Pembe to hard work.
The 10-man Port Harcourt-based side pipped Motema Pembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) 1-0 in its third group game of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.
The numerical disadvantage didn’t deter Stanley Eguma’s side the opportunity of claiming a vital away win.
“We worked so hard for this and then hard work pays. We were beaten before and learned our lessons,” Austin told Brila FM.
“I think game after game, we are improving. I am very happy. We have to put this behind us and move forward. Everybody is happy.”
Ghanaian import, Paul Acquah scored the winning goal for Rivers United in the 53rd minute and the win was Rivers United’s second of the group stage, powering the team to the top of the table with six points after three games.
Asec Mimosa moved to the second position after a 2-0 win over Diables Noirs. Up next for Rivers United is a home clash with Motema Pembe on March 7, 2023.
