By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Head Coach of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Plateau United, Fidelis Ilechukwu is stating that his side is highly hopeful and motivated to give a repeat performance this weekend.
A first-leg display gave Plateau a 2-1 a home win and the coach is hoping his side can repeat the result when they face an illustrious opponent in Esperance in the return leg in their CAF Champions League group stage hopes.
“We understand that it is going to be a very difficult game for us. We can’t rest because the first leg ended 2-1 in our favour. Anything can still happen. No one believes that we can beat Esperance of Tunisia in Abuja but we did that,” The former MFM FC coach said in a monitored interview by nigeriafootball.net on Brila FM this week.
A win for the team will guarantee a place in the money-spinning group stage of the 2022/2023 CAF Champions League.
“The team has arrived Tunisia and settled down.” Coach Ilechukwu continued. “We have prepared very well and also motivated for this game as well as being committed to getting a positive result in Tunisia.”
The game will take place on Saturday at the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi, Rades, Tunisia. On Sunday, NPFL Champions will take a 2-1 lead to the Stade Mohamed V, Casablanca where it will face holders, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.
Winners at this stage will make it to the group stage of the Champions League while losers drop to the final Preliminary Round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
