CAF Confederation Cup: Rivers United to miss new signings ahead of Yanga SC clash

By Monsurah Olatunji
Rivers United will play CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal game with Tanzania’s Young Africans without its Liberian duo of Albert Korvah and Mark Theo Gibson.
Both players joined Rivers United during the mid-season break after featuring for Watanga FC of Liberia in the competition earlier this season.
Korvah, who got his first goal for the Pride of Rivers in the 1-0 win against Dakkada last week, is cup-tied alongside his compatriot Gibson.
However, the head coach, Stanley Eguma, has revealed that his team work harder so as to make it to the semi-finals.
“We are not relying on past performance, no two games are the same,” Eguma told media.
“I understand that Young Africans has rebuilt its team and they are doing well this time around in the domestic league, they also top their group in the Confederation Cup.”
The Pride of Rivers will host the Tanzanian record champions at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday, April 23, 2023, with the tie kicking off at 2 pm.
The Nigerians finished as runners-up in Group B after losing in their final group game to group winners ASEC Mimosas.
Meanwhile, Rivers United defeated Young Africans in both legs of the CAF Confederations Cup in 2021.
The second leg will be played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Tanzania on Sunday, April 30 with the overall winner of both legs, taking on the winner of USM Alger vs AS FAR in the semifinal.
