CAFCC: Enyimba dumps out Etoile Filante to secure group stage berth

Nigeria’s most successful continental club, Enyimba FC, has once again upheld the country’s reputation by qualifying for this season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

The People’s Elephants triumphed over Burkina Faso’s Etoile Filante in a thrilling two-leg encounter that culminated in a penalty shootout.

The first leg in Ouagadougou ended in a goalless draw, setting the stage for a decisive match in Uyo on Sunday.

Despite dominating the game, Coach Yemi Olanrewaju’s side struggled to convert their chances, leading to the shootout. Enyimba ultimately emerged victorious, winning 3-2 on penalties, which secured their spot in the lucrative group stage.

Following this success, Enyimba stands as Nigeria’s sole representative in continental competitions after the earlier eliminations of champions Enugu Rangers from the Champions League.

Additionally, Remo Stars and Elkanemi Warriors failed to progress past the first round in their respective tournaments.
