CAFCC: Rivers United bus burgled, sprayed with toxic chemical in Dar es Salaam

The bus of the Rivers United has been burgled and sprayed with toxic chemical in Dar es Salaam ahead of Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final return leg clash with Young Africans of Tanzania.

The Pride of Rivers had suffered a 2-0 defeat at ho e in the first leg at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo a week ago, and will face an uphill task overturning the two-goal deficit at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

On Saturday, the Nigerian champions confirmed via social media that the team bus was burgled and valuables worth thousands of dollars stolen after its final training session.

In a trending video, Rivers officials were visibly seen struggling to catch their breath with some closing their eyes due to the toxic chemicals sprayed into the bus.

The Nigerian giants also confirmed their team bus has been broken into and sprayed with toxic chemicals and a sum of $5,250 was missing.

On ground to witness the horrible incident are CAF General Coordinator, Ali Nwebe (Uganda), and CAF Head of Security, Jamil Bawalaggana Mpagi (Uganda) who confirmed that a toxic chemical was sprayed on the bus.

The Port Harcourt based outfit had since petitioned the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) as they await further action from the football ruling body ahead of Sunday’s game slated for 5:00 kick-off time (Nigerian time).
