Plateau United winger Adamu Abubakar has expressed his excitement and gratitude after receiving a call-up to the Nigeria home-based national team for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Ghana.

Abubakar, who has been in sensational form this season with four goals for the Jos-based club, sees the Super Eagles invitation as both an honor and a challenge to further develop his skills and earn a permanent spot in the team.

“I’m grateful to God for my invitation to the Super Eagles team. I’m also grateful to my club and teammates, without whom it wouldn’t have been possible. I will work hard to represent the name and image of the club at the national level,” Abubakar told Complete Sports.

The left-footed winger, who has impressed with his dazzling dribbles and attacking contributions, acknowledged the hard work required to justify his selection.

“To be noticed in the league and receive an invitation is one thing. Another is working hard enough to prove that you deserve the national team call-up,” he added.

Abubakar’s call-up comes as recognition of his consistency and talent in the Nigerian domestic league, and he is determined to seize the opportunity to showcase his abilities on the international stage.

The forward also sees this as a stepping stone towards attracting interest from European clubs.

“Every player’s dream is to play for the national team. That’s my dream too, and hopefully, from there, one can attract the interest of European clubs,” Abubakar said, expressing his ambition to take his career to the next level.

The 2023 CHAN qualifiers against Ghana promise to be a major challenge, and Abubakar will be eager to make his mark as part of the national team’s bid for qualification.
