Chelsea Commends Victor Moses’ Nomination for African Player of the Year

Chelsea Football Club has acknowledged the nomination of their player, Victor Moses, for the prestigious African Footballer of the Year award. Moses, alongside his Nigerian national teammate William Troost-Ekong, has been included in the 30-man shortlist unveiled by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday. Junior Ajayi, the Nigerian striker from Al Ahly, is also among the contenders for the title of the best Africa-based player.

In an official statement on Chelsea’s website, the club praised Moses for his instrumental role in their Premier League title triumph last season. Deployed as a right wing-back by manager Antonio Conte, Moses demonstrated versatility, contributing both offensively and defensively. His attacking prowess combined seamlessly with a mature defensive style when the opposition possessed the ball.

The statement also highlighted Moses’ achievements at the international level, emphasizing his vital role in Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The Chelsea player scored a brace in the 3-1 qualifying victory over Algeria and found the net again in the 4-0 win against Cameroon.

If successful, Moses will follow in the footsteps of Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, who won the African Player of the Year award in 2009 and 2006. The winner will be determined by votes from national team head coaches, technical directors, members of CAF’s Technical and Development Committee, and a panel of media experts. The award ceremony is scheduled for January 4, 2018, in Accra, Ghana. Last year’s recipient was Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.
