Chelsea striker Chizaram Ezenwata, who remains eligible to play for Nigeria, has signed a new contract with the Premier League club that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until at least June 2029.

The 18-year-old has emerged as one of Chelsea’s most promising young forwards after making a strong impression in the club’s academy. His performances have been built on close control, quick footwork and composed finishing.

Ezenwata enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 season with Chelsea Under-18s, scoring 15 goals and supplying seven assists in 21 appearances. His form led to him being nominated for the Under-18 Premier League Player of the Season award.

He made his Premier League 2 debut against Manchester City during the 2024/25 campaign and has continued to develop through appearances for Chelsea’s development teams.

Ezenwata has represented England in youth competitions, but those appearances do not automatically commit him to the country at senior level. Because of his Nigerian heritage, he remains eligible to play for Nigeria in the future.

The Nigeria Football Federation is monitoring his progress as it considers ways to strengthen the Super Eagles’ attacking options.

Ezenwata visited the Nigeria squad during the 2025 Unity Cup, where he met head coach Eric Chelle. He was also invited to a Flying Eagles training camp in 2025, underlining his existing connections with Nigerian football.

His international future is therefore likely to remain a notable part of his development, as he continues to work towards establishing himself at Chelsea.
