Chiamaka Ezekwugo confident as Bayelsa Queens eye WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Final

One of the standout performers at the 2025 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers has been Chiamaka Ezekwugo, the commanding central defender whose leadership and defensive solidity have been crucial to Bayelsa Queens’ unbeaten run.

Across three group stage matches, Ezekwugo combined composure with authority, marshalling the backline with consistency and breaking up opposition attacks with ease.

Her aerial strength, game reading, and organisation have earned her plaudits from fans and pundits alike.

Ahead of the semi-final clash with USFA of Burkina Faso, Ezekwugo expressed confidence in her team’s ability to deliver on the big stage.

“We’ve shown in the group stage that we can match any team. Our focus now is on USFA, and we are confident of giving our best. Personally, I’m very proud of how solid we’ve been as a unit, and we are determined to take Bayelsa Queens into the final,” she said.

The Prosperity Girls topped Group B with victories over Police Ladies (Ghana), ASKO (Togo), and Sam Nelly FC (Benin Republic), but they know USFA will provide their sternest test yet.

A win tomorrow at the Charles Kona Banny Stadium, Yamoussoukro would not only book a place in the final but also move Bayelsa Queens within touching distance of a spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League proper.

With Ezekwugo marshalling the defence and the team’s fighting spirit intact, Bayelsa Queens remain optimistic of keeping their continental dream alive.
