Chidebere Nwakali Acknowledges Mikel Obi’s Mentorship in Super Eagles Stint

Young midfielder Chidebere Nwakali has expressed his gratitude to Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi for the invaluable guidance and support extended during his time with the national team for recent fixtures against Algeria and Argentina. Despite not making an appearance in either game, Nwakali, who plays both as a midfielder and right-back, lauded Mikel for his mentorship.
In a heartfelt Instagram post beneath a picture of himself with Mikel in the dressing room, Nwakali wrote, “It felt good playing with you (Mikel). Much respect, more blessing, and more to learn from you @mikel_john_obi. Thanks for your advice, much respect up.” The 20-year-old’s acknowledgment reflects the camaraderie and mentorship that characterize the Super Eagles squad.
Nwakali, a former U-17 and U-20 international, shared the joy of reuniting with former teammates from his junior national team days at the senior level, describing it as a testament to the progress they have made in their respective careers.
Currently on loan at Sogndal Fotball in Norway from Manchester City, Nwakali has showcased his skills with three goals in 25 appearances this season. The young talent’s inclusion in coach Gernot Rohr’s squad for the recent games marked a surprise but noteworthy step in his burgeoning career.
As Nwakali continues to learn and grow, the mentorship and camaraderie fostered within the Super Eagles set-up, exemplified by Mikel Obi, contribute to the nurturing of emerging talents for the future of Nigerian football.
